Sta. Barbara was the Provincial Capital as declared in 1743 though it is still part of the town of Calasiao. How the people of Sta. Barbara fought for their independence from Spanish colony, made the town famous for agricultural activities.
The town has a fast growing urbanization. But their primary economic activity is still farming. The main crops are rice, mangoes, variety of vegetables, corn, and root crops. They also became known from food processing like production of rice cakes, suman, nata-de coco and pickles from different fruit. Clay industry is one of the town should be proud of.
